Icelandair has launched nonstop, twice-weekly service from Tampa International to Reykjavík, Iceland, adding to the airport’s growing portfolio of international flights.
“This is an exciting and significant moment for Icelandair and we look forward to bringing two wonderful destinations together,” said Icelandair CEO Birkir Holm Gudnason. “Tampa Bay will further strengthen Icelandair’s presence in the southeast and better serve our passengers with faster travel times to Europe for western Florida, including Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater.”
Airport CEO Joe Lopano said the Icelandair service further bolsters the area’s reputation as a global gateway.
“We are thrilled to welcome Icelandair to the region,” said Joe Lopano, CEO of Tampa International Airport. “Travelers throughout Tampa Bay will now have nonstop access to one of the world’s most exciting and stunningly beautiful destinations, as well as a convenient connection to other points in Europe and beyond.”
Customers from Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport will also have a new choice for travel to Iceland and beyond when Icelandair begins new service to Reykjavik’s Keflavik International (KEF) on May 30, 2018. Icelandair will serve DFW to KEF four times per week with a Boeing 757-200 aircraft.
“DFW Airport is pleased to provide our customers with additional choices when they fly across the Atlantic,” said Sean Donohue, CEO for DFW International Airport. “Icelandair will offer our customers a full-service option whether traveling to Reykjavik, Scandinavia or some of the most popular destinations in Europe.”
The new route will open up more travel choices for DFW customers via the Icelandair hub in Reykjavik, which serves more than 25 destinations in Europe. Icelandair’s updated fleet also offers travelers more legroom, in-flight entertainment, and gate-to-gate Wi-Fi.
“As we celebrate our 80th anniversary, we are pleased to offer the largest route network in Icelandair’s history,” said Birkir Holm Gudnason, Icelandair CEO. “Our new service from Dallas Fort Worth will provide a refreshing alternative for travelers from Texas with non-stop flights to Iceland and beyond. The new DFW route will also open opportunities for European travelers wanting to explore the Dallas Fort Worth region and the great Lone Star state. We look forward to welcoming Dallas Fort Worth aboard.”
Dallas Fort Worth International will be Icelandair’s 20 North American gateway and the first in the southern United States.
